Men's Soccer Hires New Assistant Coach
Wright State head men's soccer coach Bryan Davis Monday announced the hiring of Jamie Lieberman as an assistant coach/goalkeeper coach.
Men's Soccer Adds Deep and Talented Class for 2010 Season
The Raiders added 11 players to their 2010 class on February 4, with eight different states being represented. The incoming class features nine all-state performers and one High School All-American. Head coach Bryan Davis adds four midfielders, three defenders, two forwards and a pair of goalkeepers to the roster for 2010.
Men's Soccer Nabs Two Postseason Honors From Horizon League
The Raiders boasted a strong finish to the 2009 season and the Horizon League honored a pair of WSU players on their All-League postseason teams. Senior Braden Fleak was selected to the All-League Second Team and freshman Brad Bamberger was named to the 2009 All-Newcomer Team after a solid rookie campaign.
Raiders fall to 18th-ranked Butler in final conference tilt
The Wright State men's soccer team took a lead over the 18th-ranked Butler Bulldogs into the half, but the Bulldogs would respond with three second half goals to win 3-1. Brad Bamberger provided the lone score for the Raiders, while Corey Whisenhunt made the start in net and recorded five saves.
Men's Soccer Grabs 6-0 Victory at Alabama A&M in Final Non-Conference Tilt
Braden Fleak scored the first goal of the match to collect his third match-winner of the season and five other WSU players added goals to help the Raiders to a 6-0 victory at Alabama A&M on Tuesday afternoon. Sophomore goalkeeper Corey Whisenhunt made one save to post his second career clean sheet and WSU improved its record to 6-9-1 overall and win their third road contest of the season.
Men's Soccer Blanks Bowling Green on Senior Night, 2-0
Braden Fleak tallied a pair of goals in the final home match of his career, while Matt Koewler and Corey Whisenhunt combined to shutout the Falcons, 2-0. WSU held a 15-11 edge in shots and Koewler and Whisenhunt combined to make three saves to preserve the Raiders second shutout of the season.
Men's Soccer Falls to Cleveland State, 2-0
The Raiders allowed a goal in each half and couldn't convert on their chances as they dropped a 2-0 match to Cleveland State. The Vikings connected on a goal in each half and the Raiders offense couldn't get anything started and fall to 4-9-1 overall on the season and 2-4-1 in Horizon League play.
Men's Soccer Wins OT Thriller Over IUPUI, 2-1
Brian Cothern connected on the match winner late in regulation and later set up Brad Bamberger for the match winner in the 104th minute against IUPUI. The Green and Gold won their second overtime match of the season, 2-1, and improved to 4-8-1 on the season with their third win in the last five matches. Corey Whisenhunt collected his third win in net for WSU with six saves, while also picking up an assist on the match-tying goal.
Men's Soccer Grab 1-0 Decision at Loyola on Longino's Tally
Jonah Longino connected on his first career goal in the 59th minute when he placed a perfect free kick to the far post to give WSU a 1-0 victory at Loyola on Saturday. Sophomore goalkeeper Corey Whisenhunt made a career-best eight saves in the contest to record his first shutout in the Green and Gold, leading WSU to their second Horizon League victory.
Men's Soccer Drops Non-Conference Tilt at Western Michigan, 5-2
The Raiders fell behind early and couldn't pull even against Western Michigan on Monday, falling to the Broncos 5-2 on the road. Brian Cothern scored the opening goal and Joe Flach tallied his first goal of the season later to account for the WSU scoring.
