Hillgard's Headers Vault NU Past Notre Dame, Into NCAA Third Round
On a crystal clear November day at Lakeside Field, Northwestern junior midfielder Jack Hillgard gave NU a 2-0 lead with a pair of timely headers and the 'Cats went on to defeat Notre Dame, 3-1, in the second round of the NCAA Championship Sunday in Evanston. Classmate Piero Bellizzi scored NU's third goal as the Wildcats eliminated the Irish from postseason play for the second consecutive season.
Northwestern and Notre Dame Square Off in NCAA Second Round Matchup
Ninth-seeded Northwestern makes its fifth NCAA tournament appeareance in the last six years Sunday as it hosts Notre Dame in a second-round matchup at Lakeside Field. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. Tickets cost $8 for adults and $5 for students. The first 100 NU undergraduate students in attendance can receive a voucher for admission to the match.
